China’s Endoscopic Surgical Robot Procurement in H1 2026: Domestic Systems Reach a 63% Share as Edge Medical Maintains Its Lead

As of June 30, 2026, MedRobot’s analysis of publicly disclosed procurement awards from public hospitals in mainland China, excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, shows that 27 endoscopic surgical robotic systems were awarded in the first half of 2026, involving seven manufacturers, with a total disclosed procurement value of approximately RMB 320 million.

Compared with the same period in 2025, when 26 systems from five manufacturers were awarded, overall procurement volume remained broadly stable, in line with the established tendering cycle. The number of participating manufacturers increased, while domestic brands secured a combined 17 systems, accounting for approximately 63% of the total, a substantial increase from 38% in the first half of 2025.

Behind the largely unchanged total volume, the structural changes are more noteworthy. Domestic substitution continued to accelerate, while differentiation within the domestic supplier group became increasingly evident.

01 Overall Market Landscape: Total Volume Remains Stable as the Domestic Share Rises Significantly

Tendering activity for endoscopic surgical robots has historically been relatively moderate in the first half of the year, followed by a more concentrated release of procurement projects in the second half. The broadly similar procurement volumes recorded in the first halves of 2025 and 2026 are consistent with this cyclical pattern.

The most significant change in the market structure was the shift in the respective shares of domestic and imported systems.

In the first half of 2025, the da Vinci Surgical System secured 16 awards and accounted for 62% of the market, while domestic brands secured a combined 10 systems. During the same period in 2026, da Vinci declined to 10 systems, while domestic brands increased to 17 systems, raising their combined share to 63%.

This shift was not driven by a one-off increase from a single manufacturer. It reflected the continued adoption of domestic systems across multiple provinces and different types of hospitals, providing further volume-based evidence of accelerating domestic substitution.

The number of manufacturers with publicly disclosed procurement awards increased from five to seven. Tuodao Medical, Wiseking Medical Robot and Sagebot Intelligent Medical all recorded publicly disclosed awards during the reporting period.

02 Domestic Supplier Landscape: Overall Expansion as Edge Medical Maintains Its Lead

Domestic brands increased their combined procurement volume from 10 systems to 17 systems, representing growth of 70%. This was the largest structural change reflected in the data for the reporting period.

The growth, however, was not evenly distributed across manufacturers.

Edge Medical and MicroPort MedBot secured a combined 13 systems, accounting for approximately 76% of all domestic awards, demonstrating a relatively high degree of concentration among the leading domestic suppliers. The remaining five domestic manufacturers each secured one system.

Edge Medical ranked first among domestic manufacturers with seven awarded systems, maintaining its leading position. Its procurement volume gap with da Vinci narrowed from 10 systems in the first half of 2025 to three systems in the first half of 2026.

Data from recent reporting periods show that this leadership has been sustained:

In the first half of 2025, domestic brands secured a combined nine systems. Edge Medical accounted for six of them, representing 66.7% of domestic procurement volume and establishing a clear lead over other domestic suppliers.

For the full year of 2025, domestic brands secured 47 systems. Edge Medical recorded 16 awards, representing 34% of the domestic total, and continued to rank first among domestic manufacturers.

In the first half of 2026, the domestic market expanded to 17 systems. Edge Medical secured another seven awards, accounting for 41.2% of domestic procurement volume and extending its leading position.

By comparison, the performance of other manufacturers fluctuated across different reporting periods.

Against the backdrop of an expanding domestic market and an evolving supplier landscape, Edge Medical has maintained both volume leadership and relatively stable performance across multiple reporting periods, making it an important case for continued observation among the leading domestic manufacturers.

An important feature of Edge Medical’s performance during the reporting period was the simultaneous commercialization of multiple platforms. The company secured awards across its multi-port, single-port and “three-in-one” product lines.

From the perspective of the awarded product mix, the company has developed a three-dimensional growth structure comprising:

  • a high-end, multi-specialty multi-port platform;

  • a differentiated single-port platform for specialist procedures; and

  • a more accessible and cost-effective platform.

From a product portfolio perspective, Edge Medical has established a complete matrix covering multi-port, single-port and three-in-one platforms, enabling it to offer differentiated system options according to the requirements of different clinical departments and surgical procedures.

At present, it is the only endoscopic surgical robot manufacturer with this combination of platforms.


03 Pricing Trends: Overall Average Prices Decline, Primarily Due to Structural Factors

The total disclosed procurement value during the reporting period was approximately RMB 320 million, lower than the approximately RMB 425 million recorded in the same period of 2025.

The overall market average declined from approximately RMB 17.69 million per system to approximately RMB 13.32 million per system.

Structural factors were the main driver behind this decline.

The market share of domestic brands increased from 38% to 63%, while their overall pricing remained lower than that of the da Vinci system. As the number of domestic systems increased significantly, the weighted average price of the overall market consequently declined.

The average procurement price of the da Vinci system decreased from approximately RMB 19.62 million per system to approximately RMB 15.97 million per system, representing a decline of around 19%.

Considering the current direction of domestic procurement policies, the prices of both da Vinci and domestic systems are converging toward ranges more consistent with procurement expectations in China. This was also one of the background factors contributing to the decline in the overall market average.

The average price of domestic systems decreased from approximately RMB 14.08 million per system to approximately RMB 11.43 million per system.

The price gap between da Vinci and domestic brands continued to narrow.

It should be noted that average prices are significantly affected by the composition of disclosed projects and differences in the configurations purchased by individual hospitals. The figures above therefore reflect the overall market trend, while considerable variation may exist between individual projects.

04 Hospital Purchasing: Broad Geographic Distribution Continues as Early Signals Emerge in Specialist Applications

In the first half of 2026, procurement of endoscopic surgical robots remained highly concentrated among Class III hospitals, while hospitals at Class II and below were largely absent from publicly disclosed procurement records.

This pattern is readily understandable.

Robotic surgery places relatively high requirements on supporting anesthesia capabilities, surgical case volumes and surgeon training systems. At the current stage of adoption, Class III hospitals with mature minimally invasive surgery programs remain the principal institutions capable of putting these systems into routine clinical use.

The ability to continue securing procurement awards at this hospital level indicates that the systems have passed the comprehensive assessments of hospital management and clinical teams with relevant professional expertise.

The hospitals included in the reporting-period data covered a broader range of provinces than in the same period of 2025. Procurement awards secured by leading domestic manufacturers were geographically dispersed, with no evident dependence on a single regional market.

Edge Medical provides one example.

Its seven awarded systems were distributed across Sichuan, Zhejiang, Jilin, Shandong, Hubei and Beijing, covering Southwest China, East China, Northeast China, Central China and North China.

The hospitals included provincial-level Class III general hospitals, leading specialist institutions and municipal Class III hospitals, reflecting coverage across multiple institutional levels and clinical settings.

The data demonstrate Edge Medical’s ability to achieve stable deployment across different regions and hospital tiers.


Conclusion

In the first half of 2026, China’s endoscopic surgical robot market maintained the relatively stable tendering pattern typically seen during the first six months of the year, with total procurement volume remaining broadly unchanged from the same period in 2025.

Beneath this stability, structural changes continued to advance.

The share of domestic brands increased further, the supplier group continued to expand, the commercialization of single-port systems progressed steadily, and hospital procurement decisions became increasingly differentiated and refined.

Among domestic manufacturers, Edge Medical maintained its leading position while advancing multiple product lines simultaneously.

Viewed over a longer period, procurement data reflect more than the number of systems purchased during a particular reporting period. They represent the choices made by market participants, including manufacturers, hospitals and clinical teams, in real-world settings.

The accumulation of these choices is gradually outlining the evolving competitive structure of the endoscopic surgical robotics market.

Data from the second half of 2026 will provide an important window for assessing whether that outline becomes further defined.
